The Top 100 Movie Challenge: An introduction

The challenge: Watch the top 100 best movies as according to IMDB. No time limit, and in a rough order starting at 100 (Lawrence of Arabia) and working toward number 1 (Shawshank Redemption).

The list can be found here: https://www.imdb.com/chart/top/

Its actually the top 250 list, but that seemed a bit overwhelming to start with. If the top 100 challenge works well we might go back and go from 101 to 250...

We started this at the beginning of the year, so we're already about 20 movies in. There's been a couple of great movies, some terrible movies and some that surprised me with how much I enjoyed them.

There are many on the list that I've seen before, some that I've liked and some that I haven't. I'm intending to watch everything with an open mind (even three whole Star Wars films) and to be present whilst watching - not scrolling at the same time. Or napping!

Some films we've had to watch in several sittings due to length and need for sleep, anything with subtitles is a downstairs film, ones that are familiar / easier watches can be in bed. Some are reserved for watching with the kids when we can fit in a family movie night. Anything in a series (Star Wars / LOTR etc) are being watched in order of the series rather than their rating. So we're not sticking strictly to the order.

So far, its been a (mostly) positive experience, I'll mention the 'pinnacle' of Russian cinema at a later date - no more scrolling through streaming services trying to decide on something to watch. Learning some movie trivia which is bound to come in handy in a pub quiz or Only Connect situation in the future. And an excuse to have a go at blogging, to help with motivation.

I'm going to review and rate them as we go, with some backdated reviews to make up the ones already watched.

All opinions are my own.
